Woody, adopted March 2001
From Darlene, Woody's new owner:
It was March 2001 and we decided that our nine year old border collie
Sadie needed a friend. I called Sharon Fong of Border Collie rescue
and after a home inspection we had a new addition to our family.
"The Wood" or Woody as he is called has some special needs due to
the abuse he experienced at his previous home. He is afraid of many
things. Loud noises (outside or on television), sudden movements,
cars, shadows and night are but a few. He has herded a group of
young basketball players into the middle of the court, chased the
maintenance worker in the park and scratched the paint on a car.
Unfortunately this means he cannot be off leash until he can learn
to behave.
The past eight month have been tough. Border Collies are high energy
at the best of times and with "Woods" special problems it has been
difficult. We have been working with a behaviour specialist and
he has passed basic and intermediate training. Every day he gives
a little more. (Some days he takes it back). Nevertheless he is
the most affectionate dog you could ask for, he loves his new home
and sister and we wouldn't trade him for anything.
